Riviera Dunes is a luxury waterfront community along the shores of the Manatee River
in Palmetto, FL. The 214-acre property was a former dolomite mining site that had
been exhausted and sat vacant for many years.
It was resurrected through the vision of partners Linda Svenson, Michael Fernandez
and Sid Wall. Nearly built-out today Riviera Dunes is not your ordinary subdivision.
In order to create the harbor and open access to the Manatee River, 500 million
gallons of water had to be pumped out of the 88-acre lake that the mining operation
had left. This was an 8 month long 24 hour a day operation.
Next, nearly 1 million cubic yards of earth had to be moved to level and create
the new shorelines. Once that was completed the harbor had to be refilled with water
before the cuts to the river could be made. Today the community is thriving and
is home to one of, if not, the best protected marinas on the West Coast of Florida.
Once completed, it will consist of single family homes, condominiums, townhomes,
a full service marina, restaurants, shops, offices, a convenience store, and home
to 400 boats up to 100 feet in length.
